Climb a peak, descend into a cave—simply for the thrill of it. The bold can rappel down a cliff, and the bravest can take on a wild river canyon. Encounter raw, pristine, and exceptional nature. Yes, meet Balkan—the mountain that gave its name to the Balkan Peninsula. Welcome to the Balkan Mountains, a unique National Park!

Tour plan:

Departure from the Čair Hall in Niš (by the ticket office) at 07:00 a.m. We travel along the main road through the stunning Sićevo Gorge to Pirot, then continue into the very heart of the Stara Planina (Balkan Mountains). Our hiking journey begins in the authentic mountain village of Senokos, from where we follow a gravel road through the valley of the Vodenica River. Along the way, we will visit three impressive waterfalls—Skok, Dvojni, and Ivkov Vir. After taking in the breathtaking views, we continue our ascent along a mountain trail leading to the ridge, where a patrol path takes us to Srebrna Glava (1,933 m), the highest peak in this part of Stara Planina and the easternmost point of Serbia. From the summit, we are rewarded with an incredible panoramic view. If the weather conditions allow, we will not only see the well-known peaks of Stara Planina in Serbia but also the imposing mountain peaks of Bulgaria, including the neighboring Kom. After a well-deserved break at the top, we follow a circular trail back to the village of Senokos, where we will take a short rest. The total hiking distance is approximately 25 km, with an elevation gain of 1,050 m, making this tour suitable for experienced hikers in good physical condition. We then begin our return journey to Niš. If time allows, we will stop in Pirot for refreshments and to enjoy some local specialties. Arrival in Niš is expected in the evening hours. End of the program.
