The Prokletije Mountains are one of the wildest and most impressive mountain ranges in the Balkans, spanning the territories of three countries – Montenegro, Albania, and Serbia (part of Kosovo and Metohija). As part of the extensive Dinaric mountain system, stretching from Slovenia to Albania over approximately 650 km, the Prokletije represent the pinnacle of high-mountain landscapes in the region: sharp ridges, deep valleys, glacial lakes, and rugged, hard-to-reach terrain make them a true challenge even for experienced mountaineers. The highest peak of the Prokletije, and the entire Dinaric system, is Maja Jezerce (2,694 m).

The Bogićevica massif opens up to vast plateaus, crystal-clear lakes, and long panoramic ridges, creating an environment where hiking becomes a true experience of nature in its most pristine form. Every step offers views of untouched landscapes, a sense of freedom, and a direct connection with the mountain, far from the everyday world.

This tour is designed for hikers seeking more than just elevation: long ridge walks, a serious physical challenge, and an experience of staying in a harsh but incredibly authentic mountain environment. Here, the Prokletije are not “conquered” – they are experienced, step by step.

Tour plan:

Departure from Niš at 3 p.m. from a pre-arranged meeting point. Travel through Serbia and Montenegro with short breaks for rest and border crossing. Arrival in the evening at a katun in Babino Polje, hosted by our local partners. Dinner and overnight stay.

After an early breakfast, transfer by off-road vehicles to Hodžina Ravan / Bogićevica katun (approx. 1,760 m), where the hiking part of the tour begins. The trail passes through Qafa Bogićes Pass (approx. 2,100 m), along the border with Kosovo and Metohija, then continues along the ridge over Tromeđa Peak (2,366 m), the meeting point of three countries – Montenegro, Albania, and Serbia (Kosovo and Metohija).

The ascent continues past the glacial lakes Liqeni i Tropojes, Liqeni i Zemres (Heart Lake), and Đeravica Lake (2,370 m), the highest lake in the former Yugoslavia, followed by the final climb to Đeravica (2,656 m), the second-highest peak of the Prokletije massif. After a break at the summit, return via the same trail to the accommodation. Dinner and overnight stay.

Trail profile: Total length approx. 23 km; total ascent approx. 1,500 m; hiking time 9–10 hours; physically demanding, requires a high level of fitness.
