Due to its well-preserved natural features, geomorphological and geological characteristics, and rich flora and fauna, Mount Radan was designated a Nature Park by a decree of the Government of the Republic of Serbia in 2017. Its highest peak is Šopot, standing at 1,409 meters above sea level. No matter which direction you approach it from, you will encounter numerous cultural and historical landmarks, natural wonders, and the warmth of its local people. Tour plan:
Departure from the “Čair” Sports Hall in Niš (in front of the ticket office) at 08:00 AM. Drive via highway to Brestovac and then on to the village of Borince, located at the foot of Mount Radan. Preparations and briefing for the upcoming hiking adventure. The trail, which forms a circular route of approximately 12 km, begins in the center of the village. At first, we follow a road that, after a few kilometers, turns into a hiking trail. The path leads us through a beech forest, taking us first to the summit of Mali Petrovac (1,080 m), which offers breathtaking views. From here, you can see all the way to Kopaonik, Pasjača, Beli Kamen, Šopot, as well as Kosovo and Metohija. In the opposite direction, the Jablanica Valley unfolds before us, with all its landmarks clearly visible. After a short break at the summit for rest and lunch, we continue towards the peak of Petrova Čuka (1,149 m). The trail leading to this summit is especially scenic in its final 300 meters. At the top, there is a church dedicated to the apostles St. Peter and Paul. From the summit, we follow a 7 km trail that loops back to our starting point. On the way back, we visit another local landmark – the Church of Holy Fire Mary (Ognjena Marija). After a short rest, we head back to Niš. Arrival in Niš in the evening hours. End of program.
