Prokletije is a mountain range spanning three countries – Montenegro, Albania, and Serbia (in a part of Kosovo and Metohija). It belongs to the grand Dinarides system, spanning 650km from Slovenia to Albania. The highest summit of Prokletije, and the Dinarides at the same time, is Maja Jezercë (2694m). Prokletije in Serbian, or Bjeshkët e Nemuna in Albanian, means cursed or forbidden mountains in both languages, which is the best description of this wild landscape in the Balkan Peninsula.

Tour plan - Itinerary:

Depending on the place of arrival of the group (Belgrade, Niš, Podgorica, Prishtina, Sofia…) we travel to Babino Polje in the evening hours. Once we arrive there, we sort out our accommodation in mountain huts – katuns – at 1450m elevation and have dinner. End of activities; bedtime.

Total length of the trek: 25km; lowest point of the trek: 1652m; highest point of the trek: 2656m; total ascent: 1400m

After breakfast, we ride in cross-country vehicles on a dirt road from Babino Polje (1450m) to Bogićevica katun (1652m). This is where we start our hike, crossing the Tromeđa pass, and further following a patrolling path along the very border with Albania. We continue on the trail to the ridge and then the peak itself at 2656m. Đeravica is the second highest summit of the entire Dinarides range, from Slovenia to Albania. After we spend some time on the summit, we take the same path back to our starting point and continue toward our accommodation. Dinner; end of activities and bedtime.

Total length of the trek: 10km; lowest point of the trek: 1715m, highest point of the trek: 2358m; total ascent: 600m

Our day begins similarly to the previous – after breakfast, we drive on a dirt road from Babino Polje, this time to Bajrović katun (1715m), where we start our hike. The first part of the trail leads from the katun and through a forest to Hrid Lake (1970m), and then from the lake we climb a steep path to Hridski Krš (2358m). We return by the same path and make a longer stop at the lake, to rest and revel in the lake. After returning to Babino Polje, a van takes us to Grbaja valley. Our accommodation is in the Katun Maja Karanfil hut. Dinner; end of activities, bedtime.

Total length of the trek: 14 km; lowest point of the trek: 1150m; highest point of the trek: 2480m; total ascent: 1650m

We start the climb after breakfast, from the Grbaja valley, on a trail through a forest. After exiting the forest, we continue to Krošnjin prolaz, and then on a steep path to the North peak (2460m) and further on a rocky ridge to the Big peak (2480m). After the peaks, we go back through Krošnjin prolaz to the part of the trail that forks toward the Očnjak peak (2185m). A steep grassy terrain leads us to a pass where the exposed part of the path starts, secured by rope. At the end of the hike, we return to our accommodation. Dinner; end of activities, bedtime.

Total length of the trek: 11km; lowest point of the trek: 1150m; highest point of the trek: 2057m; total ascent: 960m

We have breakfast in the morning. The climb starts in the Grbaja valley on a trail through a forest. After exiting the forest, we hike on a steep grassy path to Volušnica peak, with a fantastic view of the rocky Karanfil mountains. We continue on a steep ridge trail to the Talijanka peak and further to the Popadija peak. From Popadija, we go down a steep path to the pass below Volušnica and further through a forest to the Grbaja valley. Dinner; end of activities; bedtime.

Total length of the trek: 29km; lowest point of the trek: 1340m; highest point of the trek: 2694 m; total ascent: 1350m

After breakfast, we travel to Vusanje (12km from our accommodation in Grbaja). We climb the highest peak of Prokletije – Maja Jezercë (2694m). Our starting point is at the former police station in Vusanje, across the Grle river canyon to the Zastan watchtower, located at 1340m. We hike on one of the most beautiful trails in the entire Prokletije range, which takes us through the lake valley and exits at a pass at 2277m elevation. From the pass to the summit, the path is more technical and challenging, partly winding through rocky terrain. The total length of this trail is about 30km, with 1350m of ascent. Time needed to cross this trail is 12 hours. Finally, we return to Vusanje and further to our accommodation in Grbaja. Dinner; end of activities; bedtime.

After breakfast and coffee, we pack our equipment and luggage and travel to the airport. End of the program.
